New Tires Delivered? Your Checklist Before Installation

Dominant Tires Team 4 min read

Your tire order has arrived. Before you book installation or remove the labels, take a few minutes to confirm that every tire matches your order. It is much easier to resolve a question while the tires are still unused and unmounted.

Quick answer: Unpack, compare, photograph concerns and have a qualified installer verify fitment before mounting. Contact Dominant Tires first if anything is missing, damaged or different from your order.

1. Inspect Your Delivery Before Mounting

From delivery to installation — four checks in the right order.
  1. Unpack carefully. Keep shipping materials and tire labels.
  2. Confirm the order. Compare every tire and the total quantity.
  3. Document concerns. Photograph the full tire, labels and affected area.
  4. Ask your installer. Confirm compatibility before any tire is mounted.

Choose a clear space where you can read the labels and sidewall markings. Keep the order confirmation nearby. A quick photograph of the complete delivery also gives you a useful record of what arrived.

2. Compare the Brand, Specification and Quantity

Match the brand, model, full size and specified load and speed markings to the listing you ordered. Check each tire individually instead of assuming the entire set matches the first one.

Count tires, not just parcels. One listing may contain one tire or a stated set. For example, one set of four means four tires; it does not mean four sets. Review the package quantity in your confirmation. If part of the order is missing, check whether another tracking number is still in transit.

Use our guide to tire-size markings if the sidewall looks confusing. Matching your order is the first check; vehicle compatibility still needs verification before installation.

3. Pause if Anything Is Wrong or Damaged

Leave the tire unused and unmounted. Keep its labels attached and photograph the issue, manufacturer label and shipping label. Send your order number, affected quantity and a short explanation through our order-support page.

For a verified fulfillment error, a tire that does not match its description or carrier damage, we cover authorized return shipping and help arrange a refund or replacement.

For an ordinary unused-tire return, our return policy allows requests within 90 days of delivery for eligible unused, unmounted tires in their original condition. Mounted or driven tires are not eligible under that policy. Get authorization and shipping instructions before sending anything back; our New York mailing address is not a return facility.

4. Prepare for Professional Tire Installation

Bring the vehicle details, order confirmation and any relevant wheel modifications to a qualified tire professional. Ask them to verify the size, load requirements and speed specification against the vehicle and tire manufacturer's recommendations. USTMA's replacement guidance explains why these specifications matter.

  • Confirm suitability before mounting, especially for different front and rear sizes or modified wheels.
  • Ask what mounting, balancing, valve or TPMS services are needed and what each costs.
  • Ask the installer to set the correct vehicle-specified pressure and explain any follow-up instructions.

New tires should be balanced when installed, according to NHTSA TireWise. Discuss installation services directly with your chosen shop.

5. Save Records and Check Tire Registration

Keep your receipt, installation invoice, date, mileage and written warranty terms together. Record each tire's DOT identification number. Ask whether your tires have been registered with the manufacturer or whether you need to complete registration; it helps manufacturers contact you about recalls. See NHTSA's new-tire purchase checklist.

Warranty eligibility varies by tire and purchase channel. Read our warranty support information and start a monthly tire-care record.

New Tire Delivery: Common Questions

Can I mount a tire and return it if the fit is wrong?

Mounted tires are excluded from our unused-tire return policy. Have fitment verified first and contact us about any uncertainty before installation.

Should I book installation before delivery?

Wait until the complete order arrives and you have checked it. Then confirm an appointment with your installer, including the services and charges.

Are returns and manufacturer warranty the same?

No. Returns cover eligible unused merchandise; warranty terms address the coverage stated by the applicable manufacturer. Neither should be assumed to include installation costs.
